Thanks Forward – Message From the CEO

November 20, 2018

Some years it is more difficult than others to be thankful. For many, this may be that year. At a time of raging wildfires, destructive storms, and unprecedented gun violence, so many in the United States have suffered and all of our lives have changed. And yet, Thanksgiving is upon us, and as we gather with family and friends, there must be ways to celebrate a day of thanks.

Early this morning as I stopped at a traffic light on my way to the train station for my daily commute, I noticed the driver of the car next to me motioning for me to roll down my window. I must admit that at 6:15 a.m., I am not anxious to have a conversation with another driver, particularly one gesturing so animatedly at me. But, I put my window down, and she said: “First of all, a happy thanksgiving to you. I hope you have a wonderful holiday with your family and that you will pass this message forward to other people that you see over the next few days.” I mumbled my thanks and good wishes, and we pulled away as the light changed.

So, here it is. My best wishes for all of you to take a break from the difficulties of our daily lives and find some genuine reasons to give thanks and enjoy the company of those with whom you share this holiday. And, most of all, that your gratitude will propel you to action that will lead us to build a better world together.
